Happy birthday Hugo Strasser and Max Greger!

Last week we celebrated the birthday of James Last. But two other German legends also celebrated their birthdays in April. Max Greger turned 85 on April 2 and Hugo Strasser reached the age of 89 on April 7. Both still tour together with the SWR Big Band and Strasser still provides the music on many great balls and competitions.
Here are two a bit out of the ordinary albums they made.
So maybe a bit late but still "Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!"

Together with his son Thomas, Hugo Strasser had written music to lyrics which had been written by Claudia Schwarz. Since they hadn't found a singer to sing them, Thomas asked his father Hugo to sing the songs himself. So here it is, a singing Hugo Strasser. Ofcourse he isn't a professional singer but he has a warm voice which is flavoured with his Bavarian accent. The lyrics are about all day stuff, a bit about love, about Munich and so on. Hugo also played the clarinet and Thomas the synthesizer.

Not much information is available on Eric Bachmann. I know he was(is) a German bandleader and that he played violin, piano and organ. He started conducting in the 30's and after WWII he also became known as an arranger and composer. He led a rather large studio orchestra (over 50 musicians - a bigband and a large string section) and they played a wide range of styles, going from classical to pop, though mainly swing and ballroom. Maybe some of our visitors can enligten us a bit more with regard to Eric Bachmann.
In the mean while just enjoy this 1982 album. The arrangements for this album were done by Eric Bachmann and Werner Tauber.

Today Hansi celebrates his 82th birthday,

just one day after finishing his succesfull European Tour 2011with a concert in Berlin at the O2 Hall. 
It is really amazing that he is still touring and spreads so much music and love all over the world at his age.

I was lucky to see him this year at the concert at Arnheim (Holland 04-04-2011)

We at LoungeLegends take a deep, deep bow for this man and would like to honour him with this collection of live recordings from some of his  tours and tv shows during the period 1973 -1990.
