Clebanoff And His Orchestra
Lush, Latin & Bossa Nova Too! (1963)
LATIN AMERICAN "Lush Latin And Bossa Nova Too!" by Clebanoff and his orchestra has a most unprepossessing title, complete with ominous exclamation mark, but in the event proves to be one of the nest and most discerning albums of Latin American mood music for some considerable time. Mr Clebanoff directs a string orchestra for this LP with some woodwind and a most efficient and convincing rhythm section. A further point in its favour is Mr Clebanoff's choice of material. There are four good compositions by guitarist Charlie Byrd, one of the first North American musicians to become accurately and productively orientated to the bossa nova, and three by the Argentine-born pianist and arranger Lalo Schifrin, who has also contributed some sterling work to the bossa nova movement. The other tracks are two well-presented pops in Wonderful, Wonderful and Poinciana, Dorival Caymmi's Samba Da Minha Terra (Samba Of My Homeland), Xavier Cugat's Nightingale and Maria Grever's What A Difference A Day Made. Mr Clebanoff's orchestra, with its authentic rhythmic basis including a pandeiro (samba tambourine) with the correct dry sound, makes the most of each tune, and the LP should please a wide audience, not excluding the more demanding aficionados of Brazilian music.

THIS IS A REAL GEM!!!Ich muss das mal auf deutsch sagen: Da hat man seit über 40 Jahren auf seinen Tonbändern mehr oder weniger zufällig aus dem Radio - in diesem Falle vom dänischen Rundfunk (im NDR kam sowas praktisch nicht vor) - aufgenommene Musik und wusste bislang nichts Genaues betr. Titel oder Artist. Und findet jetzt in viel besserer Qualität genau das in diesem Blog wieder. An dieser Platte stimmt wirklich alles. Und wenn's Lounge Legends nicht gäbe, müsste er erfunden werden. Didi, ich verstehe, was Du meinst, mir geht es ja oft ganz genauso. Ich downloade ein komplett unbekanntes Album eines Kuenstlers, dessen Name ich vielleicht 'mal gehoert habe, aber dessen Werk mir komplett unbekannt ist, ich spiele die Musik - und kann SOFORT mitsingen oder -summen, weil ich die Musik natuerlich auswendig kenne von damals.
Mir hat bloss niemand gesagt, wer da spielt und wie das Stueck heisst. In meinem Fall war es nicht immer das Radio (NDR), sondern ein Spulentonband. Ich kenne es rauf und runter und habe doch keine Ahnung, wer die Musiker waren und wie die Stuecke hiessen. So nach und nach lerne ich das hier bei LL.
